TRIVANI INAUGURATES VEAL PRIAMY SCHOOL!

A collaborative effort between Veal village community members, government,
local NGOs and Trivani Foundation culminated last month with the
inauguration of a new primary school! While Trivani has a history of
supporting education in Cambodia by providing supplemental classes,
bicycles and learning materials for marginalized students, we've been able
to expand further and deeper, because of the rapid growth of the
Corporation. The Foundation met with community members and leaders, govern-
ment officials and local NGOs earlier this year to assess the community
needs and agree upon some- thing we could do together in this very rural,
poor village. Many parents had complained of the long distance their
children had to travel to reach school and the decision was made to build a
primary school right in their village. This kind of partnership
with the community is a critical element in Trivani's mission to
help people help themselves. Partnership with our Distributors is
also crucial, because without them no well-planned project can move
forward. Once we had gathered enough funds, ground was broken and
construction started.

Trivani leveraged the community's financial and manual-labor inputs with
Guardianship funds
to build a three-classroom structure. As work progressed on the new
building, another NGO stepped forward and offered to further leverage this
project by constructing two additional classrooms. Now children in Veal
village—who would ride oversized bicycles 13 kilometers to school and often
miss class because of the distance, or for the littlest ones who used to
meet for school under the house of
a gracious villager—now have a school in their own village!

As a community, it was decided that this new school should be a resource
for all. This means that in addition to being a formal classroom space for
the children, older members in the village will
be able to attend English classes in the school after day-time school
hours.

ACCESSING EDUCATION IN CAMBODIA

Notes from Natasha: Since joining the Trivani Team, I have
witnessed firsthand the impact we are having in
three different countries. I have also become familiar with the
programs we are supporting in four additional countries. In each of
these locations, Trivani is partnering with local organizations and
communities, and we are positively affecting the lives of thousands of
people. I recently returned from my first visit to Cambodia. I was im-
mediately impressed by the high value Cambodians place on education – they
compare a person without educa- tion to one of their national dishes eaten
without salt. It just isn't pleasant. Despite the importance of getting
education and the desire many have to become educated, state schools offer
a very poor quality of instruction, forcing people to supplement their
education with private classes, which are expensive. In addition,
because over 80% of Cambodians live rurally, schools are few and far
between. This forces young children to spend hours each day commuting to
and from primary school; then often the older students relocate away from
home
to be closer to the secondary school. To address the poor quality of
education that students receive in govern- ment schools and provide
opportunities for disadvantaged Cambodians to succeed in school, Trivani
continues innovative supplemental education programs. This is where Trivani
is making a great impact! With the Kravanh Bright Future Center (KBFC),
Agriculture Training Center and adult classes at Veal Primary
School, we are reaching out to hundreds, providing supplemental
training in math, science, English and Khmer languages. These
programs not only help improve performance in school but build individuals'
confidence, their desire to
learn and provide a reason to dream about their future!

Veal Village celebrates
Education Awareness Night!

The night before Veal Primary School was officially inaugurated,
there was an 「Education Awareness Night」 held in Veal village
to promote education and enroll new students in the school. This
was a fun activity that was well- organized by the
KBFC teachers and well-attended by children and adults throughout
the village. Youth and adult participated in games and trivia
ques- tions centered around education.
The highlight question:
Q: 「At what age are you too old to start primary school」
A: NEVER! No one is too old to go to school!

CHILD OF THE MONTH—VUTHY!

Vuthy Meas is a bright-eyed nine-year old girl in the sec-
ond grade. She and her family live in the remote village of Veal and
survive off the food they produce from their land. As subsistence farmers,
all the family members must help with the work in the fields. These
farming chores previ- ously used to interfere with Vuthy's
education as she would not be able to travel the 12 km distance to
school and have time to spend on the farm when it was planting and
harvesting seasons. The distance to school did not allow her to
do both school and family responsibilities. Thanks to the new Primary
School in Veal, Vuthy is now able to attend school in her home village. The
two hours Vuthy used to spend traveling to and from school is now
eliminated, providing Vuthy with not only extra time for helping
with family chores but also extra time for studying and improving her
scores in school.

During the inauguration of the new school, Vuthy attended the Education
Awareness Night, where she participated in activities that rewarded school
materials for the new aca- demic year. Vuthy expressed excitement for
this new school and gratitude for her personal school materials.
She pledged to work hard in school and do her best. Vuthy's
parents also expressed their happiness at having
a school in their own village and look forward to attending the school in
the late afternoons for adult education classes in English.

THOUGHTS FROM COUNTRY MANAGER, DIMANG HING

Approaching his one year-mark with Trivani Foundation, Dimang Hing, Country
Manager in Cambodia, shares his
thoughts on his work and the impact Trivani is making:

「I have been working with Trivani Foundation since January
2008; [I joined Trivani] after working as the administrator and teacher
in Sustainable Cambodia (SC). I carefully took time to decide to change
to the new job as Trivani Country Man- ager. But I wanted to change
the working atmos- phere, working at the community level and helping more
children. Trivani helps me to achieve my goals and in addition, I can
continue to work with the SC staff who are good co-workers. We work
together with the community to change children's lives in Kravanh
district. I am very proud to see the big changes in Kravanh. Students have
hope and have the opportunity to study more subjects and have school
in their community. They think that it
is the place where they can access education, good health, and earn
more income for the family with little support from the outside
source, which leads to self-sustainability. I am so happy to see
their smiling faces with hope and eagerness to study. I personally really
value and appreciate them. They are struggling to achieve their hope.
The students regularly undertake long biking to reach school and
they each study hard every day.

I believe if there is no education, there will not be any- thing. A new
school, like Veal Primary School, brings education and education
brings them a bright future for themselves and the country. On behalf of
students and students' parents and communities I would like to give thanks
to all distributors, to [help] us change the chil- dren's lives. Be
the change we wish to see in the world!

Thanks, Dimang

DEDICATED COLLEGE STUDENTS VOLUNTEER IN TRIVANI SCHOOLS

Rathanak is an energetic, young man, dedicated to building his
country through the medium of education.
While pursuing his own education, Rathanak spends five days a week teaching
as a volunteer English teacher at
the Trivani-supported Kravanh Bright Future Center (KBFC). In these
classes, Rathanak provides an opportunity
for the community's poorest populations to supplement and enhance their
government education. Other supple- mental classes offered at KBFC include
subjects like science, math and Khmer. Rathanak travels from his bustling
home town of Pursat to the small town of Kravanh each Monday, and spends
the whole week teaching and follow-
ing up on students' progress. Rathanak is one of four such volunteer
teachers, all of whom take a special interest
in KBFC students by making house visits to those students who are
performing poorly and/or are frequently absent from class. On these visits,
the teachers give encouragement to both the student and the parents and
determine if there are additional needs Trivani can address to support each
child's success.

After a long week of teaching and traversing to the far stretches of the
district, Rathanak returns home on Satur- days to advance his own education
by pursuing a Bachelor's degree. He only gets two nights at home, and then
Monday morning he hops a small motorbike and returns
to Kravanh to do it again. When asked why he spends
so much of his time volunteer teaching, Rathanak smiles and
says:
「I want to work with poor students because I know that most of
them want to learn to speak English but they don't have enough money
for private classes. In state schools, teachers are careless and do
not welcome many questions. Here at KBFC, we are open and students
can ask us anything.」

In the interest of being able to answer students' ques- tions, Rathanak
brings personal books from home for his own and others' reference.

In a country where the secondary school enrollment rate
is only around 25%, Rathanak comments on his per- sonal life and
the opportunity he had to complete high school:

Rathank is a volunteer English teacher at KBFC
「I was born in a poor family; I wanted to learn a lot but my family
didn't always have enough money; With two brothers and two
sisters, money was tight. I was able to get a scholarship which supported
my education and now I go to University because of the scholarship. It
is a dream come true and I like it….In my dream now, I want to
continue my education for a Mas ter's degree in English, then be an
English teacher and work with the poor people.」

Trivani thanks and congratulates Rathanak and the other volunteer teachers
at KBFC for the great contri-
bution they are to the success of the supplemental classes offered for
Kravanh District's poorest students. Their energy and commitment to
learning is an example that gives KBFC students encouragement and hope.

KRAVANH BRIGHT FUTURE CENTER STUDENTS START A NEW YEAR!

KBFC Students pose for group photo with volunteer teachers, Dimang and
Natasha
A new academic year recently began at the Kravanh Bright Future Center
(KBFC) and while Trivani is now into

the second year running, students are just as grateful and eager to learn.
The KBFC is an after school program where marginalized students receive
free classes in Math, Science, Computer Skills, English, and
Khmer. These classes subsidize the poor quality of public education and
allow for and prepare students for college scholarships. Going into the
second year, students continue to exhibit a strong desire to succeed and a
sense
of responsibility to their families and communities for this chance to
complete school. Interviews with multiple students illustrated the types
of things they would like to do after completing school: mechanics,
computer technicians and engineers were a few expressed interests, however
a majority of students expressed a desire
to become teachers. This chosen career and life path demonstrates
the commitment Cambodians have to building a bright future for their
communities and country.
Trivani Bicycle Scholarships Help Students Succeed!

Trivani Guardianship funds have provided 30 students with bicycles
in the Kravanh District. Kravanh District is comprised of many tiny
villages dispersed throughout an extremely large territory of land.
Primary and secondary schools are few and far between requiring most stu-
dents to bike up to three hours each way to school.
For those students who don't have bikes, many par- ents don't see the logic
in their child spending hours
a day commuting to and from school when they could be helping with house
work. In turn, a bicycle can
make or break a child's opportunity for an education.

Bicycle Scholars at KBFC
Trivani's bicycle sponsorship program is allowing for
many students to continue their education, in fact in order to receive a
bike loan the student must attend classes regularly, participate in
Trivani's after school program at the Kravanh Bright Future Center,
and agree to continue school up to and through the Twelfth grade.

DAY OF PURPOSE CELEBRATED DURING TRIVANI GRAND LAUNCH!

As part of Trivani Corporation's Grand Launch in October, distributors
participated in a 『Day of Purpose', where
they visited the Trivani humanitarian partner room, which displayed booths
for some of Trivani Foundation partners. Trivani distributors were able to
speak with humanitarian foundation executives, see a map display of
Trivani's fin- gerprint around the world, get answers to their questions,
and get involved in a real humanitarian project: assem- bling education
kits. By the end of the session, 1,000 kits were completed, which will be
distributed to impoverished children around the world! At the close of the
Day of Purpose, distributors attended a 『Hunger Banquet', which mim- icked
the distribution of wealth and resources around the world. As part of this
exercise, distributors were randomly assigned to an income -level group:
15% of the group were classed as high income, 35% were classed as medium
income and 50% were assigned to the low income group. People received a
「meal」 representative of their income group until they were afforded an
opportunity to be sponsored and join the rest of the group in
partaking of the bounty of the full meal. This was a powerful experience
for many and drove home the reality of some of the inequi- ties in the
world. Many distributors gained greater resolve and sense of purpose for
being a child Guardian. The
dinner was concluded with speeches from Trivani Foundation executives and
Foundation Partners.

Trivani Humanitarians Assemble Education Kits during the Grand Launch

TRIVANI Partners with GLOBUS RELIEF to transform surplus goods into
Life-Saving Resources

Globus Relief is a non-profit organization headquartered in Salt Lake City,
Utah.
Their mission is to gather, process, and distribute medical and other
humanitar- ian supplies to charitable organizations serving the needy at
home and abroad. Globus Relief works closely with a network of
qualified charities to effectively match donated resources with the
people who need them. They provide ready-to- use humanitarian supplies to
charities, enabling them to reduce costs and serve more people in need.
Globus makes it easy for manufacturers, distributors and hospitals
to responsibly donate surplus goods. During the Grand Launch in Octo- ber,
Trivani Distributors joined with Globus in preparing 1,000 education kits
which will be distributed to resource-poor communities around the world.

Trivani Corporation has seen record growth over the last few months, which
means More Child Guardians!
We now have 2,285 Child Guardians! Note that this number does not directly
correlate to the number of children and families benefitting from the
Guardianship program: Thousands of households — children, mothers, fathers
— directly benefit from Trivani's Guardianship Program. Thousands upon
thousands of children are waiting for sponsorship.
